Candle Village.
He hated the place--detested it. But... It was still home, for now. He had to put up with it until he could find a place of his own, but, knowing him, that would never come. He had a long way to go to find his own place of residence. Being an overall nuisance to the residence of the town seemed like a great way to pass his time, though, and it was always the tourists who were easiest to con out of their items.
His tail flicked back and forth, emerald eyes half-lidded as he leaned up against a building. This place was filled with ghost types, and that was probably what bothered him the most. It wasn't like he was at a disadvantage around a ghost type Pokemon. In fact, he had the upper hand if any ghost tried to torment him. No, he just didn't like them. They got in the way of many things, like his alone time. A sigh passed through the Purrloin's nose as he watched the Pokemon pass through the darkness.
He needed something to do or someone to pester. Hm...

Tumbling out of the mist, the Piplup at first expected another barrage of attacks from ghost pokemon alike, and the occasional annoying Murkrow. Going through the forest alone was very much ill-advised by those outside of it, some because of superstition, but many others because of what pokemon tended to hide in it. However, the usual absence of her parents and her determination to take any challenge headed her way was what prompted her to go into the forest, to find some sort of legend she heard in Port Neiville.
Upon not being attacked, Sam looked around, discovering a clearing of various houses and other ghost pokemon. It certainly wasn't what she was looking for, but the rest was certainly appreciated. Besides, perhaps she could ask about that 'monster' she'd heard about.
Adjusting her spectacles, she glanced around. Her previous experiences with the ghost pokemon in the forest made her hesitant to trust the ones here.

His eyes flitted over the different ghost Pokemon, narrowing at the Gastly, Litwick, and Duskull. It was rather dull with only the usual citizens of Candle Town roaming around. He needed something new. He needed something... Like that! Emerald eyes locked on the form of a young Pokemon who was clearly from out of town. This was just perfect and just what he was looking for.
The Purrloin dropped down on to all fours, slinking through the shadows as he made his way over to the Piplup. His tail waved back and forth, curling slightly in the air as he circled around his unsuspecting prey. "Well, well, well. Who have we herrrre?" He purred out, his voice rumbling inside his throat. He circled around, quickly letting his gaze sweep over the water type's figure, before halting in front of her.
He stood up on to his hind leg, tail still flicking back and forth behind him. One hand was placed on his hip as the other rested limply against his side. A smirk curled a single corner of his mouth up. "What's a little girrrrl like yourrrrself doing in a place like this?"

Sam scanned the pokemon around her, witnessing various pranks and tricks, being careful to not be a part of one herself. Still, despite the overall atmosphere of the place, she certainly wouldn't let herself trudge all the way back now. If anything, it'd just put the previous effort to waste!
Sam turned around when she heard the voice around her, nearly making herself dizzy before the cat-pokemon stopped. Were they... A Purrloin? She recalled reading about them, yet couldn't remember more than the name. She bit back- metaphorically, of course- any comments she had about him, "Well," she said, straightening herself, "if you really must know, I'm after a legend I heard out here. About a monster." she eyed the cat, wondering if he'd give a useful answer or a snarky remark.

His eyes flitted over to the glasses the unknown Piplup wore, and he couldn't help but snicker to himself. Who wore glasses anymore? If anything, a pair of sunglasses would do a lot better, at least for those who could see in the dark quite well. His tail waved back and forth, randomly moving from the ground to the air. Kuranosuke continued studying the Piplup as she started talking about a monster.
As in... The one from Misty Forest?
He couldn't help but laugh, something that sounded more like a nya-ha-ha than an actual laugh. Ah, the life of a cat. The Purrloin ceased his laughing in order to speak, a smirk placed firmly on his face. "You came all the way out herrrre for a mere legend? Nya-ha!" He rolled his eyes, snickering some more. "If you want to face that spider at the end of the forrrrest, then you betterrrr stock up on Orrrran Berrrries, Rrrreviverrrr seeds, and find yourrrr self a buddy." His smirk grew, crossing both arms across his chest. "Orrrr you could just turrrrn back now."

If not for the fact that the laugh was meant towards her, Sam might have found it amusing, "I-I have reliable sources!" she spoke out, stuttering from a mix of embarrassment and annoyance, although her 'reliable source' was an old pokemon's ramblings, "And... Well..." she sputtered at first, "Of course I wasn't going alone! I was just doing research, that's all." Sam said this confidently, as if this was what she was planning all along. After all, only a complete fool would just go rushing into the forest, alone and without items and intend to take on the monster, apparently a spider, alone. Certainly not her first intentions.
She tried thinking of what sort of 'spider' this monster could be, if this cat could be trusted at all, that is.

The Purrloin's smirk couldn't help but widen as the penguin Pokemon stuttered out her defiant responses. This kid knew how to hold her own. Sort of. He dropped down on all fours again, continuing where he left off with his circling, long purple tail waving carelessly in the air. "Rrrresearrrrch? Nya-ha-ha! That's a new one." His voice rumbled out, his purr apparent whenever there was any R's in a word.
"Norrrrmally Pokemon attempt the forrrrest because of a darrrre." He paused his circling once more, this time behind the Piplup instead of in front of her. "They neverrrr came back." He let out another laugh, a grin spreading across his face. "If it's forrrr rrrresearrrrrch, then you betterrrr prrrreparrrre even morrrre than they did."

Sam carefully watched the purrloin, yet was caught off guard when he purrrred behind her. Still, she wouldn't let herself get spooked by some cat... or at least try her hardest not to show it.
"I came on my own free well." Sam responded, as if that would prove anything, "And what's with that... rrr... sound anyways?" She tried to do the purring sound herself, only for it to come out as a weak-sounding growl.

His grin never left his face as he watched the penguin Pokemon with joy. His eyes glowed in the darkness, something that easily gave away his position when he wasn't quickly moving, was in the presence of something or someone that produced light, or just had his eyes open. His tail waved to and fro in the air, curling in both directions. Oh, now she was going to try and imitate his special little purr? He couldn't help but laugh.
"What? Can't a cat purrrrrrrrr--" He drew out his purr intentionally, "orrrr does he have to ask?" Honestly, the purr within his words only occurred when he was experiencing positive emotions. When the negativity comes, such as rage, then his purring tends to disappear, replaced by a snarl, growl, hiss, or a yowl. An ear flicked as the tom changed the subject back to the monster lurking in the forest. "Y'know, if you need company while spiderrrr chasing, I wouldn't mind accompanying you." He snickered. "The ghosts won't do you any good."

It was a bad idea coming here.
That was what went on in the Oshawott's head as he passed through the haze of the forest. He could handle his own against the Pokemon that inhabited the forest, though fending them off with nothing but water splurts seemed to be enough for them to learn from it and dodge accordingly, so he simply escaped or avoided contact. He had to wait until he was off duty in the port to actually visit this place; usually the citizens make careless mistakes and end up in the bodies of water for him or some other Pokemon working on the day shift to save. It's kind of a pain, really. But now came night shift, where he was shifting through Misty Forest to strengthen himself and show his parents he was capable of doing something different.
As he peered around after escaping the dark and shadowy underbrush, Sydney had noticed there was civilization, as mentioned by Neiville's inhabitants, with houses and such. He walked forward, thankful that he needn't worry about fighting or running anymore. However, getting pranked may be a possibility.. He put his hands akimbo, looking around some more and appreciating the scenery- at least he could admire its spookiness.

It seemed as if Sam was only getting more annoyed by the Purrloin as she talked with him. Whether it was sudden, made up challenge or her own pride and stubbornness, she wouldn't let herself simply ignore his remarks. No, that would be giving up too easily. She'd admit that he had her on the purring thing, though; the fact that she had a beak might have had something to do with it.
Sam was about to openly reject the offer, as she couldn't imagine having to listen to his remarks through a whole dungeon. Was he even serious about it? Still, she was here by herself... researching. She had a hard enough time getting to the village, who knows how hard it'll be reaching the end, let alone facing what might be there. Even if she decided not to go through with it, Sam realized that there was getting back to Neiville.
Out of the corner of her eye, she spotted another out-of-place figure in the village, and one she recognized, "Well, thank you for the offer, but I'm afraid I won't need it." she gestured to the Oshawott, "Over there's my partner. I told you I wasn't going alone."

The Purrloin narrowed his eyes at the figure in the distance, opening his mouth to draw the air in, tasting the scents clinging to it. Another water type? An Oshawott at that. His tail flicked with irritation, the potential adventure where he would leave the Piplup for ruin instantly fading from his mind. Oh well. There were plenty of other fish in the sea, but if it's fish, then he wasn't so sure he would leave them for the spider. With a sigh, the feline shrugged. "Suit yourselves. That spider is a nasty one." He grinned, canines flashing. "Don't get lost in the dark."
ooc: short 'cause i gotta go to school.

Syd had stopped in his tracks once he was seen, pointed at and mentioned, running over and blinking his embarrassingly feminine eyes. He could now see his partner with a Purrloin chattering with one another. "Alright, so who's this guy?" He asked, turning to Sam with a worried look. "I was hoping you'd avoid trouble with the rumors around Port Neiville.." He sighed and turned around. "So, I'm assuming you're a resident here and all?"

"Oh, he's just some cat." Sam said, "And an annoying one too." She didn't want to spend anymore time around him, now that her partner was here. Had Syf come after her? At least now she wouldn't get in as much trouble with her parents if they found out she was here, but she could claim that she wasn't by herself.
"We wouldn't really need your company anyways." she bragged, "Syd and I can take on that spider... or whatever it is all by ourselves! Isn't that right?" she said, looking right at the Oshawott.

Emerald eyes narrowed as the female introduced him. How rude! He was just trying to give some helpful advice and offer some assistance! Tourists, seriously. Crossing his arms and huffing, he flicked his tail back and forth with irritation. "I'm not just some cat." He hissed out, the flicking turning into a lash every now and again. "I'm the cat. You won't find another in this Arceus-forsaken town."
Quickly brushing down the fur that had begun to bristle, he shook his head. And some Pokemon wondered why he stuck with his line of work... He was a nuisance for a reason, and getting offended over it would do him no good. "Bragging won't get you far, kid." He straightened up, uncrossing his arms and placing one on his hip. And the Oshawott thought he was feminine. Turning around, ready to leave, the Purrloin took a few steps before calling over his shoulder, turning his head to the side and letting a grin slip back onto his face. "If you ever feel like not becoming spiderrr food, then just scrrream."
