It was quite a peaceful day at Meadow Lake, the sun's rays were pouring down on the water; giving it a shimmery glow. The trees were calm and still, not a single creature in sight it seemed. But that was about to change.
Not too far from the lake, there was a small cottage house, this is where Shane lived; she was gathering her art supplies to head out to Meadow Lake. Once she was finished gathering her supplies she was on her way to the lake, where she was hoping to get a nice view to make a portrait.
Once Shane got to the lake, she was amazed by the beautiful sight, she sat on the warm grass; laying her supplies beside her. She took a few moments to admire the scenery, spacing out a bit in thought.

It was a beautiful, just plain pleasant day in Meadow Lake. Truly, one could feel as if they didn't have a care in the world... and it was driving Aires bonkers. With such a busy mind, always at work with trying to analyze this and that, he usually was able to keep himself at work as well. Yet, today, he felt a rather rare feeling- boredom.
Perhaps he might work on some inventions...? Ah, no, he had no requests, and as much as he collected, he didn't have much supplies left to work on any new projects- or continue ongoing ones, for that matter. He could always go outside and explore, but to where? He feverishly moved around his home, looking for something, anything to do. Ah- maybe- supplies?
He paused, nodding to himself. Yes, he could go out for supplies... although, he'd learned before that he wasn't all that good at fighting, being more of a support pokemon. Still unsure with himself, he went outside, looked around and... there! Over there? Who was that? What was that? He was still quite far away, but with his goggles, was able to see that the shape bared no familiarity.
Whether it was the relief from boredom, or the excitement of discovering yet another new pokemon, he sped off as fast as his legs could take him, making rustling sounds in the grass as he moved. When he was close enough (although, given his lack of personal space, there never seemed to be a 'close enough' for him), he quickly yelped out a, "Hello!"

Shane had quickly snapped out of her train of thought, the rustling sound in the grass had startled her a bit, still; the expression on her face was quite unchanged. She slowly stood up and looked at the stranger for a moment, unsure of how to respond; it wasn't too often that she spoke to other Pokémon. But the stranger seemed friendly enough in her opinion, "Well...Hi there, where did you come from?" she asked in a low tone of voice.

Aires was unfazed by the pokemon's lack of expression, being much more interested in what sort of pokemon she was. He backed up a bit, and with one of his legs pointed to a wooden, house-like structure that was a few feet away from them, "Over there." he said quickly, wanting to get to more 'important matters, "What pokemon are you?" he asked immediately asked, looking over her again.

"Why...I'm a Prinplup, couldn't you tell!?" Shane said, amazed that he couldn't identify her; she assumed that the Ariados didn't get out too often, or that maybe Prinplup were uncommon in these parts. She puffed up her chest, and stood proud; "My name is Shane.." she said, trying to make a good impression. She then remembered the supplies she had set down, "Oh yeah! I almost forgot, I was going to make a portrait of the lake." she said, hoping the Ariados was interested in seeing her paint.

Aires shook his head, "No, not really. I've never seen a 'Prinplup' before." he said, continuing to look at her curiously; did all Prinplups puff their chests when they introduced themselves?
"I'm Aires." he stated, before Shane said that she was going to make a portrait of the lake, "Portrait?" he said, peeking behind her- seeing all the supplies laid out, "Oh, so... you're copying the lake?" he said, tilting his head.

"Well...I guess that's one way of putting it, but I would say; it's preserving nature's beauty on canvas." Shane said, assuming Aires would understand. She took a few steps back and picked up her easel, and set it up in front of the lake; she then placed a canvas on it. She looked down at the extra canvas she brought with her, in case she needed an extra; and then looked back at Aires and asked; "Would you like to make a portrait too? I have an extra canvas if you'd like to use it.."

Aires paused, and looked out to the lake. Nothing else came to mind that had the ability to retain something's appearance that accurately- after all, how the lake looked could suddenly change. He nodded, understanding what she was getting at.
Shane offered her own canvas for him to make his own 'portrait', and he looked to the other blank, white space that she'd brought, "Ah, sure!" he said, eager to try his hand (figuratively, that is) at this 'portrait' thing.
Not having what she had to hold up her painting, Aires instead used a nearby tree to prop up his canvas.

Shane handed Aires a paint brush, "Here, you'll need this to make your portrait." she said, exited to see how it would turn out.
She had 5 paint jars, containing the colors: red, blue, yellow, black and white. It's all she really needed, since she knew how to mix these to make any color she wanted. But she wasn't sure Aires knew how to do this. "If you need any help, let me know; I'll help you make any specific colors you need." she said, happy to help in any way she could.

Aires managed to keep a grip on the paintbrush, examining it a bit before looking to the jars full of some sort of colorful substances. He'd never really had an experience with painting before- in the Pedeo mountains, everything had to be used for survival, and as such, his inventions were more encouraged because they served more of a purpose.
Still, he was eager to try the new experience, "Alright!" he said cheerfully before going back to his canvas. It hadn't taken him long to figure out that, obviously, the colors were meant to go on the blank canvas. The only question now was what to make a portrait out of. Looking around, a few flowers caught his attention. They were rather pretty, and as he figured, it'd be nice to keep a record of them.
He looked at his brush, and then to the jars of paint. He was supposed to put colors on the canvas with this...? Ah, yes, that must be it. Holding onto the handle, he dipped the brush into one of the colors, yellow, but as he splatted the brush onto the canvas, he found that it had unsatisfactory results, in that it wasn't as focused as he'd like. So, maybe... Thinking that he wasn't doing it right, he went to the edge of the lake, washing off his brush. When he came back, this time he held the brush by the other end, and dipped the wooden part into the paint.

Shane couldn't help but chuckle, watching Aires trying to figure out how to use a paint brush was quite amusing to her. "You had the right idea the first time." She said, as Aires was dipping the handle into the paint.
She dipped the bristles of her brush in blue paint and looked at Aires, "Just watch me." she said, hoping Aires would learn better by using herself as an example. She outlined the lake on her canvas, using smooth strokes to get the desired results; she then carefully filled out the outline. After cleaning her paint brush, she dipped it in white paint; using it to make a shimmer effect for the water.

Somewhat confused, Aires tilted his head. He had it right the first time? Then why...? Hoping to get more of a handle on what he should be doing, he observed Shane as she began her own painting, and eventually figured out what she was starting on. Ah, so far, she was onto a good start!
Once again, Aires went to the lake, dipping the brush clean. Going back, he dipped his brush in the desired color, this time the right away, and tried painting again. Despite trying to imitate Shane, he couldn't quite get it right and as he wanted it to look. There'd be a crooked stroke, or some paint would spill over outside the outline. Aires wasn't one to get angry irrationally, but he wasn't used to the feeling of frustration- with his inventions, he usually managed to get the results he wanted.
Still, this was a sort of puzzle that he had to figure out. He glanced at Shane, wondering how she did it. Going closer, he curiously observed her, wondering if he might learn something more.

Shane looked over at Aires, and noticed he was having a hard time on his painting; she was wondering what other tips she might be able to give him. Shane always had a natural talent for painting. And even though she was self-taught, she was really good at it. Maybe because she's so observant of her surroundings. "Don't worry, you'll get the hang of it." she said with a smile.
She continued on her painting, making the last little details of the lake; then moving on to the pasture, trees, and flowers surrounding it. She painted the grass with different tones of green, trying to add as much realism as she could.

The reassurance was nice, but what Aires was really focused on was how she painted. Seeing how she painted, Aires noticed how much detail she put into things. Perhaps he should do that as well? He nodded to himself, deciding that he'd try to add some 'layers' to his painting.
Looking back to the paints, however, he noticed that his options were limited- Shane mentioned that she could 'make' specific colors, didn't she? Still, Aires felt like experimenting for himself.
Using a piece of discarded bark, Aires picked up his paintbrush, dipping it in one color, and then carefully putting another color onto the piece of bark. It was rather simple, but still, he couldn't help but be at least a bit fascinated by how mixing the two together changed them. It wasn't exactly the color he needed, but he'd learned how to mix colors together. Besides, perhaps he might put it to use later.
Soon enough, he was mixing all sorts of colors, enjoying the combinations that he was making. Once he got a color he needed, he put it onto the painting... the only problem was that, like with his inventions, he eventually got bored with what he was painting at the moment. Seeing a blank space on his canvas, he decided to try painting something else there at the same time. It wasn't long before the canvas was filled with a mix of unfinished things, looking quite... 'abstract', so far.

Almost finished with her painting, Shane glanced over at Aires; and saw a jumble of unfinished things on his canvas, maybe it had some kind of meaning to it, she thought. She looked at it curiously for a while, tilting her head slightly, trying to figure out what it all meant.
She shook her head, and quickly finished up her painting. "Finished!" she said, as she wiped the sweat off her forehead. The sun's hot rays were strong, and were taking it's toll on Shane; "Being in the hot sun isn't good for a Water-type.." she said, and decided to take a break under a nearby tree to cool off.
